South Portland, ME (September 10, 2009) — In just a few months, Higgins Office Products will be celebrating 50 years in business. To commemorate this upcoming anniversary, Higgins held an in-house fundraising event. Employees made donations in exchange for wearing jeans or shorts on Fridays during the summer months. The money raised has been donated to the South Portland Food Cupboard.

“Our customers have been the key to our success over the last fifty years,” said David Higgins, III, Owner and President of Higgins Office Products. “And we wanted to give back to our community where our local sales and service personnel live and work as part of our celebration which is why we chose the South Portland Food Cupboard.”

The South Portland Food Cupboard is an all-volunteer organization, currently sharing food with over 40 local families each week. These families are below 150% of the poverty level. The donations allow the Cupboard to provide healthily food staples to the many who seek their assistance.
